Part two of my celebration of Kimbra and her music explores the maturation of her songwriting coming out of her younger years. We've already seen her using her lovely voice, but the inclusion of the acoustic guitar in her songs allowed Kimbra more flexibility in her songwriting. Later in this celebration, we will see Kimbra rearranging her more well-known songs into acoustic renditions, displaying how her songwriting has a certain depth, and variety. For now, let's take a look at how she blended her talents together to create some sublime, guitar-driven pop.

Kimbra's music videos for the songs It Takes Time (top), Deep For You (middle), and Simply On My Lips (bottom).

With It Takes Time, Deep For You, and Simply On My Lips, we are able to see the transition from a more inexperienced singer to a pure, songwriting talent. It's clear that Kimbra had become something special in just a couple of years. Her willingness to continuously add flavour to her songwriting would only drive her forward, not only in the creation of her own songs, but in her performances as well.

But where would Kimbra go from there? What separates her from other artists? In the pop landscape, it is easy to get lost in the shuffle and fall victim to endless comparisons to other artists.

In the third part of my Kimbra celebration, I'm going to venture into what I believe to be the driving factor behind Kimbra's songcraft: her inspiration. Not only her inner inspiration, but also, the artists who inspire her. From current pop stars to classic R&B/Soul singers, Kimbra draws inspiration from various sources. However, while other contemporary artists wear their influences on their sleeve a little too often at times, Kimbra is able to distance herself from that kind of ordinary approach in order to become a blossoming, unique artist all her own.
