Frusic - Week of May 20th, 2016

Here we are with the new Frusic update for this week! In case you're unsure of what that means, it refers to a selection of albums that I wish to highlight for New Music Fridays. Suggestions are always welcome! Let's dig into what this week has to offer!

Marissa Nadler - Strangers (Sacred Bones Records)

American singer-songwriter Marissa Nadler is preparing for the release of her new album, Strangers, this Friday. Strangers promises to be another venture into the murky waters of deep songcraft with Nadler's ambient approaches to pop wonderment. From what I've heard so far, it feels like this could be one of the impactful albums to watch for in 2016. Don't sleep on this one, folks!

Mutual Benefit - Skip A Sinking Stone (Mom+Pop)

We have ourselves another American singer-songwriter in Jordan Lee, or better known here as his group, Mutual Benefit. Comprised of different musicians, Mutual Benefit blends baroque/indie pop with splendid vocal harmonization. The result is a sound that is both melancholy and hopeful. Skip A Sinking Stone is a collection of songs that will continuously bring you back for more. What else could you ask for?

Suidakra - Realms of Odoric (AFM Records)

Let's now head overseas with German metal band, Suidakra. Combining folk metal with death metal flourishes, Suidakra bring their forceful tunes to their newest release, Realms of Odoric. Jam packed with marching rhythms and Celtic-inspired songwriting, their newest effort brings that sweet sound that Suidakra deliver so well. Be sure to give these guys some of the recognition they deserve!
