Frusic - Week of May 13th, 2016

Frusic (Friday music), or what I say when I refer to New Music Fridays, will be the section of this blog dedicated to anticipated musical releases. I'm always open to suggestions for which albums to listen to and showcase on the blog! These are usually selected based on personal taste, but I'm always receptive to any input. Okay! Let's see what May 13th has brought upon us:

Jessy Lanza - Oh No (Hyperdub)

Jessy Lanza, the Hamilton, Ontario native, will release her sophomore album Oh No on May 13th. The electronic/R&B songstress collaborates with partner Jeremy Greenspan (Junior Boys) for a 10-song LP which features more prominent vocal passages alongside seductive, intense electronic soundscapes. A natural progression from her 2013 effort, Pull My Hair Back. Check it out!

Sylvaine - Wistful (Season Of Mist)

Norwegian artist Sylvaine acts as the one-woman show for her sophomore album, Wistful. Performing on synthesizers, percussion, guitar, bass, and vocals, she creates a wall of sound that is all her own. An outlet for her own muse, she emits a unique, atmospheric brand of experimental post-rock on this 7-song recording. Wistful is adventurous, emotional, and scintillating, making it a must-hear album for 2016.

Jameszoo - Fool (Brainfeeder)

Leave it to Brainfeeder, a forward-thinking label, to continue to push the boundaries of contemporary, modern jazz. Enter Jameszoo, a Dutch producer who has thrown modern jazz approaches into a blender, mixing in his own creations (including 8-bit sound effects) in order to create a funky and unusual collection of material that never lets you get too comfortable. Trust me, that's a good thing.

Well, there you have it. A few of the newer releases this week that I've had my eye (or ear) on. Again, I'm always open to recommendations from anyone. I try to avoid the more obvious releases, as they're usually dominating the social circles. Anyway, go ahead and check out that Frusic!
